Microsoft has been updating Windows 11 with new features and updates in order to improve the platform. It recently announced many changes for Windows 11, including a new tab-based File Explorer, security features, and more. These improvements, particularly the support for tabs in File Explorer, have not yet been released to the general public. According to a Microsoft executive, stable users will have to wait for the new tab-based File Explorer in Windows 11 to be released. Take a look at the details below.
Windows 11’s Tab-Based File Explorer Could Be Delayed
According to reports, Microsoft may put off releasing features like the tabbed File Explorer to the general public. This means it won’t be included in the next Windows 11 22H2 release. Brandon LeBlanc, the Senior Program Manager of the Windows Insider team, responded to a recent tweet on the imminent Windows 11 Sun Valley 2 upgrade by saying that features like “tabs in File Explorer will come up to Windows Insiders (between the Dev and Beta Channels) when they are ready.” Check out his tweet, which is attached below.
To recap, File Explorer tabs allow users to quickly locate various files and directories on their computers. They can open the relevant file with tabs for easier access. Users will be able to pin critical files and folders to a tab-based File Explorer for quick access.
It’s worth noting that Microsoft has already enabled the new Tab-based File Explorer on the Dev Channel with Windows build 22527. However, it is now one of the numerous secret features of Windows 11 that Dev channel Windows Insiders must explicitly enable. We’ve written an in-depth article about how to activate tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11, which you can read for more information.
When it comes to the new File Explorer’s availability for Windows 11 stable users, it’s difficult to determine when Microsoft will make it available. Although LeBlanc’s statement hints that Microsoft may include it in a future cumulative update.
Recently, Users received the Windows 11 KB5011563 cumulative update from Microsoft. It’s an optional upgrade that arrives right before the April Patch update. Changes to notification delivery and a few fixes are included in the latest Windows 11 release
The new Windows 11 KB5011563 build largely affects the notification delivery mechanism, which now displays up to four messages at once. Calls, reminders, alarms, and other types of notifications will be sent.
