Managing multiple audio devices on Windows has often been a difficult task, and despite a few attempts by Microsoft to enhance the user experience, it still feels like the operating system doesn’t make switching between audio outputs and adjusting sound levels as seamless as it should be. One example of this is the simplification of Bluetooth device categorisation in Windows 10 in 2021.
However, despite these efforts, users often find it difficult to switch between audio outputs and adjust sound levels easily on Windows. Many users, for instance, desire the ability to customise audio levels for individual applications using Windows 11’s Quick Setting panel.
Fortunately, Microsoft has taken steps to address a minor inconvenience experienced by Windows users. In the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview, the company has introduced a revamped Quick Settings volume mixer.
This updated interface element not only allows users to easily switch between audio devices, but also enables them to activate spatial sound and adjust the volume output for individual apps. These capabilities were not possible with the previous design.
Furthermore, Microsoft has included a dedicated shortcut to make accessing the feature quicker. By pressing the Windows, Ctrl, and V keys simultaneously, users can easily open the volume mixer once they have access to it.
Microsoft has stated that the revamped interface provides users with increased control and a simpler way to manage their preferred apps. As noted by Bleeping Computer, the redesigned volume mixer shares similarities with the well-known EarTrumpet modification.
It is currently unclear when Microsoft intends to release the latest Windows Insider features to the general public. However, one can hope that this specific feature will become available soon.
