    Microsoft appoints Mustafa Suleyman to lead Microsoft AI division

    In a recent email to Microsoft employees, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced an exciting organizational update, reflecting the company’s commitment to advancing in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). As Microsoft enters its second year of the AI platform shift, the focus remains on bold innovation and pushing boundaries.

    Nadella emphasizes the pivotal role of AI in shaping the future of technology and underscores the importance of building world-class AI products that resonate with end-users. With this vision in mind, he introduced the appointment of Mustafa Suleyman as the Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, alongside Karén Simonyan, who joins as Chief Scientist.

    Suleyman’s track record as a visionary founder of both DeepMind and Inflection, coupled with his expertise in product development and team leadership, positions him as a key addition to Microsoft’s senior leadership team. Similarly, Simonyan, renowned for his contributions to AI research and breakthroughs, brings invaluable expertise to the organization.

    Nadella highlighted the infusion of talent from Inflection, including top AI engineers and researchers, who will bolster Microsoft’s efforts in consumer AI research and product development. This influx of talent underscores Microsoft’s commitment to fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of AI technology.

    He also outlined organizational changes, with Mikhail Parakhin and his team, responsible for Copilot, Bing, and Edge, transitioning to report to Suleyman. This strategic realignment aims to double down on innovation and capitalize on the evolving consumer product landscape driven by the AI platform shift.

    Mustafa Suleyman CBE is a British artificial intelligence (AI) entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and former head of applied AI at DeepMind, an AI company acquired by Google. After leaving DeepMind, he co-founded Inflection AI, a machine learning and generative AI company, in 2022.

    Notably, Kevin Scott continues in his role as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of AI, overseeing all aspects of AI strategy and partnerships. Meanwhile, Rajesh Jha remains Executive Vice President of Experiences & Devices, leading initiatives such as Copilot for Microsoft 365.

    The announcement reaffirms Microsoft’s commitment to leveraging AI technology responsibly and ensuring its benefits reach every person and organization worldwide. As the company continues to operate with speed and intensity, the addition of Suleyman and Simonyan promises to accelerate innovation and propel Microsoft’s AI initiatives to new heights.
