Meta is organising a virtual event later this month where several internal specialists will present their methods to use AI in constructing the metaverse and what function machine learning systems will play in the process.
Participants, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, will talk about how the metaverse can be used in many different ways.
“Building for the metaverse is the most ambitious long-term bet we’ve ever made as a company,” Meta says. The world is going to need a lot of new technology in the future and Meta believes AI can help make the experiences we’re dreaming up possible.
During this virtual event, Meta will talk about computer vision, speech and translation, and the company’s developer community in detail. Sessions like “Delivering Inclusive Technologies through Translations,” “Building Responsible AI at Meta,” and “The Path to Human-Level Intelligence” will be held. It’s safe to say that the last one will frighten people like Elon Musk, who has frequently warned about AI’s potential dangers.
Even if you don’t like it, Meta wants to add this research to the bigger picture of the metaverse, so that people can connect with each other at the next level of technology.
If you look at Meta’s plan again, you’ll see that they want to own a lot of different types of technology and development by putting them all under the “metaverse” banner. Because of this, they’ve changed the name of the company to Metaverse, and they want to claim the next level of connection by making Meta synonymous with any new advances in the metaverse.
How important is AI in the metaverse? It all depends on what you mean by “metaverse.” Meta can do whatever it wants with the project because it hasn’t been defined yet. Then, Meta can make itself the most important platform for the space and each new development by being “Meta,” the person who came up with the term.
Regulators in some places told Meta, then Facebook, that it had to stop its Free Basics internet access program because many people who signed up for it, who had never had access to the internet before, came to see Facebook as the internet. They didn’t make a distinction between web access and the Facebook platform. This gave the company a big advantage in the market because it changed people’s perceptions of what the web can be and controlled access to this group of people.
For all intents and purposes, Meta will own the metaverse. It appears to be accomplishing this in a much larger way presently. If you want to connect with other people in VR, you’ll do that in Meta’s metaverse. If you want to build new AR experiences, they’ll need to be in sync with the metaverse shift, which is under Meta’s control. Meta’s name change isn’t just about re-aligning the company’s focus or separating itself from the controversy of the past. It also serves a much bigger purpose than that.
