Last week, we reported that Meta introduced Meta AI’, a powerful conversational AI chatbot, into WhatsApp in India and parts of Africa. Today, Meta AI has expanded into seven countries in Sub Saharan Africa including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Built with Llama 3, it is now available on phones and in pockets for free.
Some Nigerians reported the presence of the Meta AI icon in the search box of the WhatsApp and Facebook app today. According to Meta in a statement made available to Innovation Village, “the rollout of this AI assistant in English will enhance connections and provide millions of Africans with tools to be more creative, expressive and productive.”
Meta AI powers functionalities across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, enabling users to accomplish tasks, acquire knowledge, foster creativity, and engage with meaningful content. From feeds to chats and search, Meta AI seamlessly integrates into our apps, allowing users to efficiently access real-time information and complete tasks without exiting the current application.
According to Mark Zuckerberg in a post today, “Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI. We believe Meta AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant that you can freely use. To make Meta AI even smarter, we’ve also integrated real time knowledge from Google and Bing, right into the answers. We’re also making it much easier to use across our apps.”
Meta AI comes with new, innovative capabilities, such as image animation, style iteration, and GIF creation, empowering users to unleash their creativity and share dynamic content with friends in exciting ways.
Meta AI is also available on the website “meta.ai,” where users can ask the assistant for help with tasks. Users can log in to save your conversation history, sync with Messenger, generate images and more
