The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) has officially launched applications for the seventh edition of the MEST Africa Challenge, a pan-African pitch competition aimed at identifying and supporting high-potential technology startups. This year, the focus is squarely on fintech innovation, with the program seeking startups that are building impactful solutions in digital payments, financial inclusion, insurtech, and value chain financing.
Founded in Ghana in 2008 by serial entrepreneur Jorn Lyseggen, MEST has grown into a leading pan-African institution offering software and entrepreneurship training, seed funding, and incubation support to early-stage startups across the continent.
The MEST Africa Challenge 2025 continues its sector-specific approach for the second consecutive year, offering US$50,000 in equity funding to the winning startup. In addition to capital, selected startups will gain access to a robust support ecosystem, including:
- Mentorship from industry experts
- Marketing and branding services
- Co-working space
- Business development tools and platforms
The challenge is open to fintech startups operating in Botswana, Uganda, Mauritius, Seychelles, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa, and Ghana. The goal is to empower entrepreneurs who are solving real-world financial challenges and driving inclusive growth across Africa.
Through this initiative, MEST continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing Africa’s next generation of tech leaders and innovators, while spotlighting the transformative potential of fintech in emerging markets.
