Yesterday at the 440.NG Mentor Cocktail event which held at the Lagos Garage, the 9 startups chosen in the first edition of the 440NG Accelerator program were introduced. This Each startup had a chance to give a brief introduction.

JAY OSBIE (www.jayosbie.com)
Jay Osbie is an online brand and retailer for fashion forward young men. They design and manufacture fashion items and accessories. The Jay Osbie brand is synonymous with quality, style and functionality.

OBIWEZY (Obiwezy.com)
Having operated out of Computer Village ( One of Nigeria’s largest revenue generating electronics trading markets) for about four years, Obiwezy identified that almost 50-60% of trades were done on used gadgets. Obiwezy has created a “one stop shop” for the sale of used gadgets.
Obiwezy.com provides convenient, reliable and affordable buying, selling and trade-in services for gadgets online.
ELLA MATTHEW (www.ella.ng)
Ella Matthew is an online fashion label that aims to be the go-to platform for fabulous and accessible fashion for Nigeria’s growing middle class. There is a growing need for convenience, instant gratification, great availability of fashion and great customer services arising in Nigeria.
JARAMALL (www.jaramall.com)
There is a growing need for healthy eating in Nigeria. Jaramall is working to solve this problem by providing the community with fresh fruit and vegetables using a subscription model.
YOUNGSOUL (www.youngsoul.ng)
There is a new federal policy in Nigeria that has made Computer Studies a compulsory subject for students in Secondary Schools and it has become clear that chalkboards and textbooks are no longer sufficient to effectively deliver the curriculum.
This is why Youngsoul Ltd have built VirtualClass, a digital teaching/learning aid designed to assist computer teachers with providing a deeper understanding of topics. The software contains animated videos, tests and simulations mapped to every topic of the WAEC curriculum, as well as collaboration tools that enable teacher-student and teacher-teacher interactions.

An average of 1.5 million students take the yearly JAMB examination in Nigeria. Over 65% of the students fail and this sometimes kills their dreams of getting admitted into University.
Clickright have developed a solution called Mobile JAMB CBT. This helps students prepare for Nigerias most important admission examination, JAMB . The solution simulates the exam electronically, tracks progress, and provides an explanation to questions. It is optimized for mobile and is also available offline.
OUR PRAYERBOX
Nigerians have a lot of issues and the first source of help for most of them is prayer, from pastors, friends, family and church members. Ourprayerbox allows anyone with an email address to share prayer requests/points in no more than 200 characters. If prayers get answered, they have access to a feature that allows them to post a testimony.
It is available on the web, mobile web and as mobile applications across all platforms. It has other features such as religious calendars with synchronised reminders, ability to pay tithes and offerings easily even when you can’t be in church physically.

Most Nigerian businesses have challenges monitoring their inventory and quite often do this manually. Taja has developed a cloud-based retail platform that makes it easier for businesses to track inventory and handle sales.
FUEL VOUCHER
There is a huge problem in Nigeria monitoring how much money is spent on fuelling cars. Drivers are pocketing money when sent to fill up cars, there is also the inconvenience of having to handle cash.
Fuelvoucher aims to solve these problems by providing Nigerians with a digital voucher that allows users to pay for fuel instead of using cash.
Over the next 3 months, the startups will recieve hands on training, mentorship, business support and go to market strategy from 440NG.
440NG is a JV between 88mph and L5Lab which provides startups with between $20k-110k investment for 10-25% equity in their businesses. They invest in startups that target the African markets and are scalable via web/mobile.
