Maziv, the parent company of Vumatel and Dark Fibre Africa, has announced the appointment of Phila Dube as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Dube, who is transitioning from his role as the outgoing Chief Commercial Officer at Openserve, brings with him a wealth of experience from a 26-year career at Telkom, where he held various senior positions, most recently as CCO.
“Maziv is thrilled to welcome Phila Dube as our new Chief Commercial Officer. Phila is the ideal candidate to drive our commercial strategies forward across our consumer, enterprise, and carrier brands,” said Maziv CEO Dietlof Mare in a statement on Wednesday.
Dube’s career began with a focus on finance within the sales and marketing organization at Telkom. Over time, he transitioned to roles centered on commercial strategy, business strategy, and product innovation. His extensive background in these areas positions him well to lead Maziv’s commercial initiatives.
“As the new group CCO at Maziv, Dube will concentrate on shaping the overall commercial strategy for the group and exploring ways to engage and serve the company’s diverse customer segments,” the company stated.
Dube holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree from Unisa, a Master of Business Leadership from the Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership, a certificate in Executive Leadership Development from the Institute for Management Development in Switzerland, and has completed the Senior Executive Programme for Africa at Harvard Business School.
Dube’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Maziv, as the company, along with Vodacom, prepares to appeal a Competition Tribunal decision that blocked Vodacom from acquiring a co-controlling stake in Maziv. This decision has sparked mixed reactions within the industry, with some players expressing approval while others have voiced their discontent.
