Mauritius- Based Bayport Management has secured $12 million in financing from WaterEquity, a US-based asset manager dedicated to solving the global water and sanitation crisis.
The funding will provide access to financial services for traditionally underbanked, low-income public sector employees to obtain loans for housing or home improvement-related purposes, including benefiting from basic and improved access to safe water and sanitation solutions.
While commenting on the fresh investment, Chris Newson, CEO of Bayport said, “Financial inclusion and empowerment is the driving force behind our business. Bayport’s efforts on advancement and sustainability are further cemented by the stakeholder partnerships that we develop. The confidence that WaterEquity has demonstrated in our business model and track record is very gratifying, and we look forward to further developing this partnership to the benefit of our customers across the world.”
Founded in 2001, Bayport is a public limited liability holding company with headquarters in Mauritius and a network of subsidiaries across Africa and Latin America. Bayport offers tailored savings, insurance and credit solutions to individuals, predominantly civil servants, in emerging and frontier markets where access to such services is often limited for a significant portion of the population. By being an active financial partner to low-income or underserved individuals, many living in remote areas, the services offered by Bayport promote financial independence and economic growth in the broader community. Bayport’s at-source deduction credit model serves more than 500 000 customers in seven African countries and two in Latin America.
WaterEquity’s funding will target BML’s subsidiaries in Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda with the potential of reaching more than 200,000 people over the 5-year loan period with access to water and sanitation such as wells, water connections, and toilets with septic tanks.
“WaterEquity is dedicated to ending the global water and sanitation crisis through partnerships with local financial services providers such as Bayport Management Ltd,” said WaterEquity Chief Investment Officer John Moyer. “We believe harnessing the power of private capital offers one of the best solutions to increasing access to water and sanitation at scale. In partnership with our trusted counterparts at BML, this investment will reach households in some of the most underserved water markets in the world.”
Access to clean water and sanitation is essential for improving public health and overall quality of life. WaterEquity’s partnership with Bayport Management Ltd (BML) aims to address this need by funding projects that provide sustainable water connections and sanitation facilities like septic tanks in underserved regions. Maintaining septic systems is crucial for sustaining these improvements.
Professional services like Alligator Septic help ensure that septic tanks and drainage systems function efficiently. Their expertise in cleaning, repairs, and maintenance prevents costly breakdowns and environmental hazards. Proper sanitation—including well-maintained septic systems and clean toilet facilities—is foundational to preventing disease and fostering dignity. The ripple effects extend beyond individual households, enhancing overall public health and creating more resilient communities.
In tandem with proper sanitation practices, ensuring the efficiency of drainage systems plays a critical role in protecting public health and maintaining hygienic living conditions. When drainage systems become compromised—whether through neglect, aging infrastructure, or natural buildup—there’s a heightened risk of water contamination and environmental degradation.
Addressing these challenges requires prompt and professional intervention. Issues such as blocked drains Leeds can disrupt daily routines, lead to foul odors, and even contribute to more serious structural or environmental problems if left unresolved. That’s why trusted drainage experts are essential; they not only clear obstructions quickly but also perform thorough inspections to identify underlying issues that could pose future risks.
By using modern equipment like CCTV cameras and high-powered water jets, these professionals ensure that drainage systems are not just temporarily fixed but restored to optimal functionality. This proactive approach supports broader sanitation efforts, reinforcing the foundation of healthy, sustainable communities.
In regions where infrastructure remains limited or where temporary sanitation is necessary during construction, community gatherings, or relief efforts, premium mobile restroom solutions can fill a vital gap. Services like Diamond Porta-potty rentals offer a hygienic, dependable option for areas lacking permanent restroom access. Whether for rural development projects, transitional housing zones, or public events supporting sanitation initiatives, these portable units provide comfort and safety while reinforcing the broader mission of water and sanitation equity.
With reliable maintenance and quality amenities, they help maintain health standards and serve as a bridge to more permanent infrastructure, complementing efforts like those of Bayport and WaterEquity in meaningful ways.
This transaction is a first of its kind for WaterEquity, diversifying into at-source deduction lending as a tool for increased funding towards the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector (WASH). This new market segment allows WaterEquity’s funds to further reach underserved or inconsistently served low-income consumers, expanding financial inclusion alongside much-needed access to water and sanitation services.
