Now what would make one of the richest men world pour a bucket of ice cold water on himself? No, he is not crazy. It is all for charity. The Charity is the ALS Foundation and the Ice Bucket challenge is the brainchild of former Division 1 baseball player Peter Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The Ice Bucket Challenge first took off in Boston but has quickly spread all over the world, raising more than $4m for the ALS Association.
Partakers must film themselves dropping a bucket of freezing cold water over their head and donate a small amount to their chosen charity, or face a forfeit in which they must donate a more significant sum.
They must then nominate three others to take part, or forfeit within 24 hours.
So on Wednesday Mark Zuckerberg took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge and he posted it on his Facebook page. He was challenged by Governor Chris Christie to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He accepted and he now challenged Bill Gates, Sheryl Sandberg and Reed Hastings next.
