I thought it was a joke when I saw Bankole Oluwafemi Facebook post . Of course I thought it was a photoshop joke. How can Mark Zuckerberg be in Nigeria unannounced?
Then I saw this video below on red Media Africa’s Instagram page then I knew it was for real. The Facebook CEO is in Lagos, Nigeria. I saw Ime Archibong, the Director of Global Product Partnerships at Facebook and Emeka Afigbo, Facebook’s Product Partnership efforts in the Middle East and Africa in the background while Mark was speaking at the familiar surroundings of the Co-Creation Hub.
I actually thought he was still in Rome ‘cos he made some comments about meeting the Pope and even giving him a model drone just some hours ago.
I am sure not many people know about his presence in the country.
Why is he here? As he said in the video, he is here to see the great things Nigerians are doing. As at the time of writing this piece, he is at the Co-Creation Hub in Lagos, Nigeria. I guess he would make a stop at Andela where the Chan Zuckeberg Initiative invested $24 million or even see an ExpressWiFi hotspot that was recently announced in collaboration with Coollink.
He might even wait to flag of the Facebook Developers programme kicking off tomorrow.
Anyways, Mark. Welcome to Nigeria and may your brief visit be fruitful. This is his first visit to Nigeria.
Update: Check out the official reason the Facebook CEO is in Nigeria.
