Maliyo Games, a notable game development studio based in Lagos, Nigeria, has entered into a partnership with Disney Games for the launch of a mobile game. This new game is based on the animated series, Iwájú, which is currently available on Disney+.

Maliyo Games, recognized for crafting mobile games deeply infused with African inspirations, boasts a portfolio of over 40 games. The newly launched game, titled ‘Iwájú: Rising Chef,’ celebrates Nigeria’s robust culinary heritage, allowing players to virtually serve national favorites like Jollof Rice, a widely enjoyed festive rice dish across West Africa.

Maliyo Games’ CEO and founder, Hugo Obi, shared how the collaboration aligns perfectly with the company’s central mission: to tap into African talent and produce high-quality games for a worldwide audience. He expressed his immense pride in Maliyo Games’ diligent team, appreciating their enthusiasm, professionalism, and creativity in facing such a challenge.

Sonoko Isioka, Disney Games’ executive director of product development, regarded Maliyo Games as the ideal studio for realizing such an authentic African-rooted narrative into a game. She acclaimed Maliyo Games’ ability to encapsulate the spirit of Iwájú through their distinct vision, talent and expertise, resulting in a one-of-a-kind game that celebrates vibrant Nigerian culture and food.
