West Africa’s major provider of internet access, MainOne, has signed a partnership agreement with the University of Lagos to connect the tertiary institution to its high-speed internet bandwidth connectivity.
The company said on its official website that through the partnership, the university would enjoy the benefits of ubiquitous broadband access, adding that it would also improve the quality of education in the school via improved access to ICT.
Folu Aderibigbe, MainOne’s chief sales and marketing officer said the partnership would extend MainOne’s internet services to the education community.
Folu said: “Nigerian tertiary institutions need to be strengthened and empowered, to ensure the global competitiveness. MainOne sees the need to assist the educational system meet its learning and research objectives, and provide a platform for experience exchange and problem solving within educational and research institutions all over the world.”
In his remarks, Professor Mowete, acting director/chairman, Center for Information Technology and Systems, thanked MainOne for its intervention adding that the broadband access would significantly extend the institution’s research and content delivery capabilities in terms of sharpening the student’s research skills and broaden the horizon and scope of their studies.
