Consumer Reports reviews are in and the site refuses to recommend Apple’s latest MacBook Pro, for the first time. This is because the laptop’s battery life is horrible, so the MacBook skipped to be to be awarded a recommended ratings this year.
The MacBook Pro exhibited “battery life results that were highly inconsistent from one trial to the next,” the magazine said in a review. The three Pro line-up, the 13-inch models and a 15-inch models were found lacking in the battery department.
Some consumers have complained about battery life in the three new models, that the longevity of the batteries lasted anywhere from 3.75 hours to 19.5 hours. Although battery life can vary from test to test, Consumer Reports said a fluctuation as large as the one it experienced on the MacBook Pro is extremely rare. Usually, laptop battery life only varies about 5% from test to test.
“Battery life is an important attribute for a laptop, and it represents a significant portion of our overall score,” reviewer Jerry Beilinson wrote. “After factoring together our complete test results, Consumer Reports finds that all three MacBook Pro laptops fail to meet our standards for recommended models.”
The publication said Apple declined to comment on its test results, but issued this statement: “Any customer who has a question about their Mac or its operation should contact AppleCare.”
