#LoveDrive : The Largest Blood Drive in Lagos!

LifeBank is a health technology company saving lives by ensuring the availability of blood in Hospitals across Nigeria. It is a social enterprise using technology to create a better blood system.

The organization will be hosting the largest blood drive, themed #LoveDrive, in Lagos in a few days. It is a fun event, where people can come to hang out with celebrities, meet people and ultimately save lives. There will be free medical checkups, food and drinks.

The Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service will be on ground with its personnel to conduct the free mini medical checkup and they will conduct the donation process. They will also take all donated blood  for screening and then they will have them distributed to health facilities across the state.

In Lagos alone, 185,000 pints of blood are needed annually but only 80,000 pints are collected and most of these by blood touts and paid donors, which ultimately, are not efficient for the system. This huge shortage leads to 25% of maternal mortality and countless deaths of children under the age of 5.

Nigeria’s national blood agency, NBTS says that 10% of the nation’s population is expected to donate voluntarily to meet the nation’s demand; however, out of 1.7 million units of blood needed, 49,908 voluntarily donated units were recorded for 2014.

LifeBank hopes to change this by creating a movement of young healthy Nigerian voluntary donors.

The event is on 13th February, 2016 at 294, Herbert Macaulay Way, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.

    Time is 10am – 5pm.

    See you there!
