I don’t think there are many Internet-savvy Nigerians that do not know about Linda Ikeji. Some like her, some hate her but she is truly a pacesetter.
Now don’t think I have been paid to praise or exalt her. People thought she could do no better than her gossip blog but she brought another rabbit from her hat by launching Linda Ikeji Social (LIS). According to her, Linda Ikeji Social is where Facebook meets Linda Ikeji blog. Now some may think, “Haba, she just changed the colour of Facebook from blue to red and named it Linda Ikeji Social.” Well go and sue her!!
Then you should do the same of the likes of Samwer brothers of Rocket Internet, the duo behind Jumia, hellofood, e.t.c who have made cloning a profitable way of life.
Do you know that Linda Ikeji Social had over 50 000 signups in just two days after launch and her traffic rank in Nigeria is now 564 and globally, 172,510?
Let’s give her the credit. She is not a techie. She has just found a technologically simple way of doing her business. Consider the following:
- She did not go to any of the IVY league business schools like Harvard or Yale but she has studied her environment and understood the needs of the people. She has been able to create something out of nothing.
- Content is still King. She has been able to ensure that she has the right content for her audience. Hmmm… You can actually liken her to Jason Njoku of iROKO tv. It is all about the right content to the right kind of people.
- Low operational costs. She has been able to contain her expenses to the barest minimum and not bother about attending numerous accelerator funding programs or seeking angel investors. She still uses the Blogger platform for her blog.
And I can continue with the many reasons why she has thrived and will continue to thrive. I do think Linda Ikeji Social is another feather to her cap.
Now will Linda Ikeji Social be as explosive as her blog? I do think so.
Very soon, I know she will be a case study at Lagos Business School or even Harvard Business School. She will be called by the “serious minded people” to give a talk on how she has been able to build a successful business out of what people consider Lame – Gossip.
Ride on, Girl.
