L'Oréal cuts ties with Belgian World Cup fan after hunting picture surfaces online

Just some days ago, we did a post about a World Cup fan from Belgium who got a modeling contract with L’Oreal after she was spotted supporting Belgium during the World Cup.

The fan, Axelle Despiegelaere signed a contract after she was photographed in Brazil wearing a Belgian “Red Devils” team hat. She was hailed on social media as the “most beautiful”  football supporter receiving more that 200,000 “likes” on her Facebook page.

Well this dream only lasted for a couple of days as the same social media that hailed her has brought about her downfall.  A series of photographs showing her posing next to a dead Oryx antelope went viral on the internet. She took these pictures while on a hunting trip to Africa last year. Apparently L’Oreal cancelled the contract because of its sensitivity to animal welfare concerns. Two years ago, the company  donated   $1.2 million to the US Environmental Protection Agency to help improve the   testing of safe chemicals without the use of animals. The brand was quoted as saying “Axelle de Spiegelaere is not one of L’Oréal Professionnel’s spokespeople. L’Oréal Professionnel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium. This has now been produced.”

17 year old Axelle Despiegelaere is the daughter of a wealthy industrialist and real estate investor, Yves Despiegelaere.

Axelle’s Facebook page has since been deleted.
