As Kenya grapples with a staggering 47% of its distributed water going unaccounted for, a new partnership between Liquid Intelligent Technologies (Liquid) and DropByDrop Water Systems aims to revolutionize how the country manages its water resources. The collaboration is focused on deploying smart water management technologies to address the persistent issue of non-revenue water (NRW)—water that is lost before it reaches consumers due to leaks, theft, or metering inaccuracies.
The two companies announced that their joint efforts will focus on enhancing leak detection, improving metering accuracy, and enabling real-time monitoring. These improvements are expected to help water utilities recover lost revenue, improve service delivery, and unlock new funding opportunities for infrastructure development.
By combining Liquid’s robust digital infrastructure and tailored technology solutions with DropByDrop’s cloud-based water management platform, the partnership will deliver data-driven, scalable solutions to water utilities across Kenya. The integration of Liquid’s Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities with DropByDrop’s platform will enable real-time data collection and analysis, ensuring more efficient and reliable water distribution.
Reflecting on the partnership, Neeraj Pradhan, Acting CEO of Liquid Kenya, said:
Water scarcity is a growing challenge across the continent, and managing this precious resource efficiently is more important than ever. Through our partnership with DropByDrop, we’re bringing Liquid’s advanced technology and data-driven solutions to Kenya’s water sector. By helping providers digitise their infrastructure and build smart water ecosystems, we’re empowering them to serve their communities better.
The smart water platform includes features such as:
- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) integration for remote monitoring and control
- Geo-asset management to ensure infrastructure is properly maintained
- Remote valve control for quick shut-offs or adjustments
- Multilingual interface and compatibility with various networks to ensure accessibility and scalability
These capabilities not only improve operational efficiency but also support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting and contribute to progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The data generated can also inform urban planning and infrastructure development, making it a powerful tool for long-term impact.
In his remarks, Khorolsky, who leads international projects at DropByDrop, stated:
Water is at the heart of life, yet millions still struggle to access it reliably. At DropByDrop, our mission is to harness the power of data and technology to make every drop count. Leveraging Liquid’s extensive infrastructure enables us to scale our advanced water management platform in Kenya. Together, we’re creating a future where water is managed sustainably, equitably, and intelligently.
This partnership represents a significant step forward in addressing Kenya’s water management challenges and sets a precedent for how technology and collaboration can drive sustainable development across Africa.
