Apart from Twitter, LinkedIn have launched Story features that were short-lived. Today, LinkedIn announced that it will be suspending the Stories feature on September 30. As a replacement, it will start adding short videos to the platform.
In the announcement, LinkedIn encouraged advertisers and marketers who may have promoted ads to run in Stories. Instead, these ads will be shared on the LinkedIn feed.
LinkedIn launched Stories in September, around the same time Twitter’s Fleet was released to all users, before the feature was phased out. It’s part of a larger web and mobile redesign that also adds integrations with Zoom, BlueJeans, and Teams to help professionals stay connected while working from home. However, according to LinkedIn, these temporary posts are not fully functional on the platform.
“In developing Stories,” the company says, “we assumed people wouldn’t want informal videos attached to their profile, and that ephemerality would reduce barriers that people feel about posting”. Adding that, “Turns out, you want to create lasting videos that tell your professional story in a more personal way and that showcase both your personality and expertise.”
If LinkedIn succeeds with its plans to create a short video feature, it will join platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, which have created their own TikTok-like feeds. Of course, most users probably won’t post the same content on LinkedIn and their personal social media accounts, but there are actually some top TikTokers that share career tips, interview tips, and update guidelines, so don’t turn your LinkedIn videos into super weird ones seen.
