LinkedIn yesterday introduced chat-style messaging experience allowing users to attach photos, documents, stickers, emojis and GIFs to their connections or groups via web, mobisites and on its iOS and Android apps.
The service is initially rolling out to all English speaking users globally, including paying and non-paying users. LinkedIn Premium users will still use InMail to people they are not connected with. This seems to be an attack on iMessage, Messenger, Whatsapp, Line and WeChat among others.
Director of Product Management at LinkedIn, Mark Hull announced, “The wait is over. We know people love to message each other, and now it’s easier than ever to do so on LinkedIn. If you’re like me, you’re probably having more and more short-form and casual conversations with your professional peers every day. As you would over text or in-person.”
“Starting today, we are rolling out a new messaging experience on LinkedIn that offers an easier and more lightweight way to have professional conversations with your connections,” Hull said. “We’ve also introduced a chat-style interface to allow for easy back and forth messaging.”LinkedIn messaging also an improved push and email notifications to make it easier for users to follow relevant topics among their circles or areas of interest.
