According to Temie Giwa-Tubosun, Founder of One Percent Project, LifeBank App has helped the company save time by having access to potential blood donors. This was her response in an exclusive interview with Innovation Village on this health innovation recently.
The One Percent Project is set up to attend to the shortage of blood supply in case of emergencies in Nigeria. The initiative believes in harnessing the collective power of young people to save lives by encouraging the culture of blood donation.
Temie says that the idea was birthed as a result of the bomb blast which tore through the United Nations Building in Abuja, Nigeria, four years. She says that she remembers feeling very helpless and the fact that the health system was not adequately equipped to respond effectively and efficiently.
The LifeBank App is a web application that connects blood donors to patients in need of blood transfusion during emergencies. It launched in 2013 during the World Blood Donor Day celebration and currently has over 1500 people registered. The Life App is a web app so people don’t need to waste their data to download it. All they need to do is to sign up at Lifebank.ng and wait to be called to donate blood or use it to request for blood if and when that is needed.
