Lenovo is on the verge of fulfilling its mission to bridge the gap between working in the office and working from home.
On May 13th, 2021 the company announced it will unveil two devices to help remote employees work smart and efficiently. Yesterday it announced that it is ready to unveil the new Go Wireless Laptop Charger into its lineup of accessories. Sam Byford of The Verge says that the device lets you retrofit wireless charging functionality to a wide variety of laptops. “It makes use of “Power by Contact” technology from Energy Square, rather than the more common Qi standard’” he added.
The device is referred to as a kit simply because it comes in multiple pieces. It has a strip that plugs into any laptop with a USB Type-C port. The strip makes contact with the pad, delivering 65W of power.
Description
The kit consists of a 3.2mm-thick brushed metal charging mat that you plug into the wall and leave at your desk, as well as a long wireless charging receiver that attaches to the base of your laptop and connects over USB-C. Once set up, Lenovo says it should charge most 13-inch to 14-inch “non-touch notebooks of up to 65W” with the efficiency of 93 per cent, and it’ll work with both Windows and macOS devices.
Wireless charging on laptops is pretty rare. Dell released what it called the world’s first wirelessly charging 2-in-1, the Latitude 7285, in 2017, although it was more of a tablet that could be charged through a keyboard base. Intel also made efforts to integrate the Rezence magnetic resonance charging standard into its laptop specifications, but nothing was ever released commercially.
The Go Wireless Charging Kit is probably the coolest ‘stuff’ on Lenovo’s list that is upcoming. The company will release the device in the month of October for a price of $139.99. It’s part of a new range of Go-branded mobile accessories including a Qi-equipped power bank, wireless mice, headphones, and keyboards.
XDA Developers were able to pry into Lenovo’s list of upcoming accessories. “There are just a few more accessories from Lenovo. The company, they said, “is introducing a few headsets with active noise cancellation, including the Wired ANC Headset, the Wireless ANC Headset, and the ANC In-ear Headphones. All of them are designed to work with Microsoft Teams. All three of them are coming in November for $99.99, $179.99, and $79.99, respectively.”
They even have the Lenovo Go Tech Accessories Organiser which is displayed above. According to the Developers, the Tech Accessories Organiser can hold all of the stuff that’s meant to be on-the-go with you, such as pens, portable chargers, mice, your phone, and so on. “It’s coming in September for $44.99,” XDA Developers confirms.
