It is number 2,016,933 and it literally is the last Land Rover Defender to roll off the production line at Solihull, England. The first Land Rover’s first production model (first Series I Land Rover) came off the production line 68 years ago i.e in 1948.
Land Rover gathered 700 current and former employees of the Solihull plant, plus a contingent of historically significant vehicles to commemorate this landmark and to bid this car farewell.
The last vehicle is a Defender 90 Heritage soft top, with styling cues from older Land Rover models. This car is not for sale but it will go straight to Jaguar Land Rover’s own collection.
The Land Rover was originally designed by brothers Spencer and Maurice Wilks primarily for agricultural use but as has been the case, it was not only the farmers that were interested in the Land Rover.
According to Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth: “There will always be a special place in our hearts for Defender, among all our employees, but this is not the end. We have a glorious past to champion, and a wonderful future to look forward to.”
Here are some of the pictures from the occasion.
