Lagos State Government has announced it is actively working on a plan to digitise all land papers in the state.
“When complete,” the state government stated, “interested persons in property acquisition or real estate transactions can access information on government portals relating to properties and land in Lagos State from anywhere in the world.”
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the newly sworn-in Special Adviser (SA) to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on E-GIS and Planning Matters, made this known during a panel discussion on Deploying Technology for Transparency and Growth of the Lagos Real Estate Market at the just concluded Third Lagos Real Estate Market Place Conference and Exhibitions held at Victoria Island on Tuesday.
According to him, creating an efficient and sustainable platform for local and foreign investors to actively participate in the real estate sector requires openness in transactions.
While addressing the audience, Lagos State’s Permanent Secretary for the Lands Bureau, Mr. Olabode Agoro, explained that the goal of the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority’s (LASRERA) registration of individuals and organisations is to ensure that only certified and trained professionals are allowed to work in the State’s real estate sector.
He went on to say that the digitization system will collect precise data for efficiency, and that E-GIS is an advanced database system that distributes information across a network of systems.
Panel moderator and President & Founder of the Nigerian Proptech Association, Dr. Roland Igbinoba, highlighted that GIS is crucial for the growth & transparency of the real estate industry.
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said in December 2020 that beginning in the first quarter of 2021, all land-related transactions in the state would be conducted electronically.
The goal, according to Sanwo-Olu, is to speed up the approvals process for land transactions and establish a sustainable business-driven property development sector in the State.
The Governor assured the public that all the pieces were in place for a seamless transfer to the digital platform, and he emphasised that preparations were currently in their final stages.
The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in a bid to foster ease of doing business in Lagos State has through the Lands Bureau sorted, merged, scanned, indexed and digitised the files used in processing title documents in the State.
On Thursday, 22nd September 2022, the first set of electronic title documents designed via Aumentum application and hosted on Electronic Geographical Information System (EGIS) Platform were signed by the Honourabl Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN.
