Lagos state has commenced the distribution of the state’s new electronic Certificates of Occupancy (e-C of O). At an event held in the state capital, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola issued the new certificates to 55 property owners.

The event officially kicked off the issuance of the e-certificates. The recipients are property owners in the various government land schemes.

Speaking at the event, the state governor said the embracement of electronic C of 0 was the state’s response to the problem of document counterfeiting. He said the former C of O which is known as the Yellow Paper could be illegally printed by unscrupulous individuals. This he said has compromised the reliability of the document as a legal title to properties in the state.

He said: “This new electronic document is more secure as it is designed to eliminate cloning and issuance of documents that are not genuine.

“Those issued with this e-C of O can be sure they have bought land rather than law suits. The new document guarantees safety of properties.”
