Nigeria’s ecommerce powerhouse Konga.com has announced a partnership with telecoms company Globacom, the deal many stakeholders in the tech industry who spoke to Innovation Village, said is similar to the one between MTN and Jumia although it is not entirely a replica.

Konga and Globacom are partnering for Glo with Happiness campaign that would benefit customers of both tech companies.

“The campaign will kick off with a ‘Recharge and Win’ promo in which all subscribers on the Globacom network stand to enjoy discounts off their first purchases on Konga. To win in this promo, Globacom subscribers simply need to recharge their phones with airtime of N1,000 or more and they will get a discount code immediately, which gives them N1,000 off their first order on konga.com,” the ecommerce giant said in a statement made available to Innovation Village yesterday (Monday).

With the partnership, Globacom now has a dedicated store on Konga’s marketplace which will provide a wider opportunity for Nigeria’s online community to access Globacom products. The Globacom online store, will feature a wide range of devices including modems, routers, sim cards, dongles, Mi-Fi modems, power banks, memory cards, phones, tablets and computers at incredibly low prices and with the guarantee of fast nationwide delivery.

Shoppers of these and other devices on Konga could receive up to 4.5GB free data upon activation of their free Glo SIMs. For the next 12 months the lucky shoppers will enjoy an additional 350MB bonus data every month they buy data of N1,000 or more; or 500MB on data of N2,000 or more.

Globacom’s Regional Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Ashok Israni said the company entered into the partnership with Konga to extend its reach to the online community in tandem with its tradition of bringing its products and services closer to all its subscribers.

“We are in a connected era where people relish the convenience of placing orders for products and services of their choice from the comfort of their immediate environment. This is the additional value the partnership with Konga will offer Globacom subscribers,” said Israni.

He added that Globacom will continue to invest huge resources in supporting, developing and maintaining any profound information and communications technology initiative. “Our desire is to ensure that our subscribers continue to enjoy quality and affordable data and voice offerings with greater and unfettered access to our products and services through both the conventional retail channels and online retail outlets. That is the robust platform the partnership with Konga.com has offered,” he said.

In his remarks, the Marketing Vice President for Konga.com, Mr. Gabriel Gab-Umoden said, “This partnership will allow us deliver even more on our promise of unbeatable value to our teeming customers. With numerous leading brands to choose from including Lumia, Huawei, Apple, Blackberry, Samsung, Asus, Infinix, HP, Dell, every customer will be sure to find something that suits his taste and budget. Connectivity is essential to our customers and to e-commerce as a whole. We recognize the vital role Globacom has played in facilitating the growth of e-commerce by enabling connectivity. This partnership will undoubtedly help konga.com to further advance the company’s mission ‘to be the Engine of Trade and Commerce in Africa.”
