Kenya-based telco giant, Safaricom, has for the umpteenth time extended its CEO’s contract by a year.
This extension is said to be compensation for Bob Collymore’s 2017 medical leave taken to battle Leukemia. The CEO will now leave the telco in 2020.
Speaking to the media at a local event, Collymore said, “I am not going anywhere. I will be here for another one year till 2020.”
There had been speculations that Mr. Collymore would be exiting due to his illness and that the company was having difficulty finding his replacement. This extension postpones transition at the firm.

The company has also seen significant growth, spearheading innovation particularly in fintech.
