This year’s International Open Data Day Kenya will be celebrated simultaneously in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa on 21st February 2015.
Open data is data that can be freely used, reused and redistributed by anyone – subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and share-alike.
Open Data Day brings together tech enthusiasts from cities around the world to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption open data policies by the world’s local, regional and national governments. The event will engage the local community in these locations to build applications using open data, liberate/scrape data, visualize data and publish analyses.
The 3 events in Kenya are being coordinated by a steering committee consisting of a lead in each of the towns and the Community Lead at the Open Institute. They are as follows:
Evan Green-Lowe – Co-founder of LakeHub based in Kisumu
Ahmed Maawy – Co-founder Swahilihub based in Mombasa
Leo Mutuku – Data science Lead at the iHub based in Nairobi
Jay Bhalla – Co-founder, Open Institute based in Nairobi.
According to the Open Data Day Kenya website the event will be held in the following venues;
Kisumu – Event TBC
Nairobi – Event to be held at the iHub
