Before the announcement, Alice and Charlotte were the names most highly speculated to be picked by the royal family. A betting site, Ladbroke say they have already paid out £1m on the name Charlotte to winners of the gamble.
Now that the family has picked out the name ‘Charlotte’, it is expected that the popularity of the name will decline over the next few years. Sasha Miller, International Managing Editor of BabyCentre says, “Parents don’t want to be labelled as having been influenced by others in their baby name choice, particularly by such a high-profile family.
“That was a pattern we saw very clearly after the birth of Charlotte’s older brother in 2013; the name George quickly dipped in popularity in BabyCentre’s naming charts.”
