    Karl Toriola appointed MTN’s Group VP, West and Central Africa

    Following the restructuring at MTN Group, Nigerian Karl Toriola has been appointed the Vice President of West and Central Africa Operations. By this appointment, He will be overseeing operations in the following countries – Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Benin, Congo Brazzaville, Guinea Conkary, Liberia, Guinea Bissau.

    Mr Toriola has been at MTN for 10 years, having held senior operational roles at MTN Group and MTN Iran. He was formerly also the Chief Technology Officer at MTN Nigeria and CEO at MTN Cameroon. Before joining MTN Nigeria, Karl was the Chief Operations/Regional Officer for Vmobile Nigeria (now Airtel Nigeria) from April 2004 to July 2006.

    His appointment takes effect from 1st January 2016

    Other appointments include Jyoti Desai, as the new MTN Group Chief Operating Officer (COO), Ismail Jaroudi as VP for MENA and Group Executive for M&A, Matthew Odgers.

    The Group says it is still searching for a CEO and this remains a priority.

    The restructuring is a fallout of the $5.2 million fine imposed on MTN Nigeria which led to the resignation of the Group CEO, Mr Sifiso Dabengwa.
