KaiOS Technologies, the company behind KaiOS – the mobile operating system for smart feature phones, has launched a Developer Portal. The KaiOS Developer Portal is a platform designed to support developers, designers, and engineers in developing applications.
KaiOS-powered smart feature phones are now available in most African countries. Brands include MTN Smart, Orange Sanza and Tecno T901.
The KaiOS Developer Portal offers a catalog of tools and resources to simplify the process of app development, and also helps developers take advantage of a new revenue stream by connecting them with millions of KaiOS users.
Developers will find everything they need to create apps for publication in the KaiStore, including:
- A guide to building your first app, with sample code, reference guides, software development kits (SDKs), and more;
- Instructions for ENV setup to configure your development environment;;
- A simulator running Gaia and web apps in a Gecko-based environment.
“We’re delighted to welcome more developers, designers, and engineers into our growing ecosystem, and can’t wait to see all of the incredible content they will create,” said Sebastien Codeville, CEO of KaiOS Technologies. “As the third-largest mobile OS in the world, KaiOS offers developers the opportunity to generate revenue and provide valuable apps to new markets, which means more curated, innovative, and relevant content for users.”
KaiOS powers a new category of low cost, lightweight devices that support internet connectivity and apps.
Through the KaiStore, KaiOS users have access to over 100 apps, including WhatsApp, the Google Assistant, YouTube, Facebook, and Google Maps, as well as other local content.
