JUMIA, Africa’s largest online retailer, founded by African Internet Holding (AIH), celebrated the one year anniversary of its operations in Kenya yesterday evening with a fantastic event in Nairobi. JUMIA is now the most popular online retail destination in the region, with over 50,000 items available to its users. This month, in order to empower more African entrepreneurs to move their businesses online, JUMIA Kenya has also launched its Marketplace, an online platform where merchants can sell their products online to JUMIA’s huge customer base.
To celebrate the team’s achievements, JUMIA Kenya hosted an extravaganza yesterday evening to share the successes of the past year as well as take a look at the company’s future prospects. Guests enjoyed food, cocktails and a chic fashion show at the Zen Garden in Nairobi, where a mix of media moguls, fashion influencers, celebrities and top entrepreneurs all joined together to celebrate JUMIA’s huge success in Kenya and the wider African region. There was also the chance for one lucky guest to win the new X Touch smartphone at the event.
JUMIA Kenya MD Parinaz Firozi commented: “The team at JUMIA Kenya was so excited to be able to celebrate this significant milestone together at such an exciting event yesterday. There was a great mix of people at the event, and we all felt that the evening marked a special time for us to reflect on our achievements of the past year as well as looking ahead to even greater success in the year to come. We are confident that JUMIA will continue to grow and bring new products and services to our users while continuing to empower entrepreneurs in Kenya through our Marketplace as well as salesforce platforms. We look forward to growing along with Kenya and cannot thank our users, suppliers and employees enough for supporting us and helping us achieve the growth and success we have achieved today.”
JUMIA first launched in Kenya in 2013 and has grown to become Kenya’s largest online retailer, offering a huge assortment of over 50,000 high-quality items. Earlier in 2014, JUMIA Kenya and its team of nearly 100 employees moved to a new 24,000sq ft warehouse, as well as its new headquarters in Westlands. JUMIA also launched in Uganda in 2014, and continues to grow across the continent.
