Tech giant, Meta, has announced that it is shutting down Jobs on Facebook on 22 February 2023. This means that the feature will no longer be available on the Facebook app, Facebook mobile website (m.facebook.com/jobs) or Facebook desktop site for both employers and seekers.
It was shut down everywhere except in US and Canada on the 22nd of February 2022 and Facebook removed the ability to distribute free jobs via a partner integration with the Facebook Jobs API (application-programming interface).
Launched in February 2017, Jobs on Facebook is a feature that allows job seekers find hiring managers directly on the social networking platform. It was a direct attack on business and employment social networking service, LinkedIn. Businesses were allowed to post job vacancies on their pages, which were visible to anyone who visits the page, and also appeared on the news feeds of FB users who have ‘liked’ the page, easing the job finding process for the users.
The new job feature appeared as an update on business pages in Facebook which enabled businesses post job listings the same way they’d typically compose a status update. It was easy for Page admins to create a job post, track applications and communicate directly with applicants. After posting a job, Page admins would be able to review applications and contact applicants on Messenger, all on mobile and all in one place.
Jobs on Facebook was first available to users in US and Canada at launch and then rolled out to 40 other countries in February 2018.
