Jaguar Land Rover today launched InMotion, a wholly owned subsidiary and innovation startup charged with the responsibility of building mobility apps and services that play to the strengths of its parent company’s premium car brand. At the moment, InMotion consists of 30 employees whose operation is based in London but according to Jaguar Land Rover, various programs will be tested across North America, Europe, and Asia “in the coming months.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Adrian Hallmark, Group Strategy Director for Jaguar Land Rover mentioned that a new car is typically 3-4 years in the making and with a lifespan that sees it stay around for nearly a decade. In contrast, the digital world enables products to come to market in a matter of months not years, and it’s within this context that InMotion is being given the freedom and financial support to try new ideas and see what works.
Hallmark also said ; “As a start-up business, InMotion combines the flexibility and pace needed to compete in the ever-changing mobility sector. It allows us to react quickly to new tech and ever-changing customer demands.” InMotion starts by carrying out in-depth research with people from around the world to learn about emerging travel and transport issues which need solving. The insights from this lead to a set of closed real-world experiments, testing multiple approaches to find the most effective.
