Iwc Schaffhausen, a luxury watchmaker has just announced the introduction of a new watch accessory called the IWC Connect. This digital device fits onto the strap of mechanical IWC watches – at first just the Big Pilot – and provides full activity tracking. According to IWC, this device will be able to control to all objects connected to the “Internet of things,”
International Watch Co., also known as IWC, is a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Founded by American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones in 1868.
IWC Schaffhausen is notable for being the only major Swiss watch factory located in eastern Switzerland, as the majority of the well-known Swiss watch manufacturers are located in Western Switzerland. The lingua franca of IWC is German.
The idea behind this new innovation is to enable owners of IWC timepieces to control their connected environment directly from the wrist while also maintaining the integrity of a handcrafted mechanical timepiece.
IWC said that the IWC Connect answers the needs of discerning customers by providing a high-quality luxury design solution: it not only tracks the wearer’s activities, but also allows them to interact with connected devices in their environment (IoT).
Georges Kern,CEO of IWC Schaffhausen explained “Seeing that many of our customers and brand ambassadors are wearing connected devices alongside their IWC watches, we chose to work with a like-minded digital technology company to develop an elegant, aesthetically complementary solution that eliminates the need to have additional devices on the opposing wrist to your IWC.
The launch date is yet to be announced.
