Iwájú, a Disney animated series created in collaboration with Kugali, a Pan-African comic book entertainment company has been nominated in three categories at the 3rd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. The announcement was made in a post by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
The three Children’s and Family Emmy® nominations include Children’s or Young Teen Animated Series; Younger Voice Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program; and Directing for an Animated Series.
The Iwájú series, consisting of six episodes, follows the journey of Tola, a young heiress from a prosperous island, and her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert and caring son from the mainland. Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola and Halima Hudson, Iwájú unfolds against the backdrop of a futuristic Lagos, exploring the secrets and dangers hidden in the worlds of its protagonists.
This marks the first time a Nigerian animated film has received such a significant number of nominations at the Awards.

The Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards is a prestigious event dedicated to celebrating excellence in children’s and family programming. Established as a distinct category under the Emmy Awards, this ceremony recognizes outstanding achievements in various forms of media, including television shows, streaming content, and animated series aimed at younger audiences and families.
The awards ceremonies are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 15, 2025.
