Apple has released iOS 16 beta 5 and with the new update the company has now added the battery percentage to the battery icon in the iPhone status bar and the iPad.
The company has updated the battery icon on iPhones with Face ID to display the specific battery percentage rather than just a visual representation of battery level.
The addresses one of the most common iOS requests since Apple removed the icon with the release of the iPhone X.
iPhones with “Face ID” don’t have a battery percentage due to lack of space on either side of the notch containing the TrueDepth camera hardware. The new design adds a specific battery level to the battery icon, giving you a better idea of the battery status at a glance.
In iOS 15 and earlier versions of iOS, the battery icon shows a visual battery level, but not a specific percentage. To get this information, iPhone users will have to swipe into the Control Center to see the Battery widget.
The battery icon changes colour depending on the battery status and iPhone background color. For example, while charging, the battery icon turns green and shows the charging indicator.
The battery percentage can be turned on and off in the Settings app under Battery. The feature appears to be available on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, with the exception of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12/13 mini. It is also available on the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, XS and XS Max, and iPhone X.
Hopefully, the iOS 16 Beta 5 (available to only developers) will be released to the public as beta test soon.
