Rumour’s been swirling on the web about Apple launching a new smaller 4-inch device later this year. It’s been said that it would be called the ‘iPhone 6c’ just like the iPhone 5c. About two weeks ago, a different rumour emerged which claims that the next 4-inch iPhone would be called the “iPhone 5e” and would have curved edges as well as have Apple Pay support just like the 6s. However, a new report from 9to5mac is saying that the 4-inch device will actually be a special-edition iteration of the iPhone 5s dubbed the ‘iPhone 5se.’ The device will be touting the internal codename of ‘N69.’
One of the new features, according to the report, is that the iPhone 5se will have the Live Photos feature, something the iPhone 6/6 Plus does not have. This feature alone would put the device at an advantage over the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Aside from the aforementioned feautres, the 4-inch device is expected to have many features similar to the iPhone 6 including an 8-megapixel camera, an A8 processor, and an NFC chip for Apple Pay support. Color options include rose gold, silver, gold, and space gray just like the iPhone 6/6 Plus and iPhone 6s/6s Plus. The iPhone 5se won’t however have 3D Touch input due to the cost and size of the hardware required.
Reports also claim that the new 4-inch device won’t have a plastic body and instead be in line with the current iPhone 6s and sport a metal enclosure. If this is the case, the device will look and feel more premium. It has also been rumored that Apple will be holding a keynote presentation early this year to announce new products and specifically, the iPhone 5se. We’ll have to wait and see.
