Apple’s WWDC 2022 is just days away, and we can’t wait to see what the firm has in store for us, including iOS 16 and other OS advancements. While we’ve heard speculation about iOS 16 in the past, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has uncovered new information suggesting that with iOS 16, Apple may finally introduce support for an always-on display feature for iPhones. Take a look at the details down below.
Support for Always-On Display in iOS 16
Apple is rumored to be adding support for an always-on display (AOD) feature in iOS 16 ahead of the debut of its forthcoming iPhone 14 series, according to Gurman’s Power On newsletter. According to the analyst, Apple is aiming to make big improvements to the iPhone and iPad lock screen this year, including support for AOD and “wallpapers with widget-like features.”
AOD support on iPhones, according to Gurman, will dramatically reduce the frame rate in order to always display quick-glanceable information like as the battery percentage and notification count, among other things. However, the analyst claims that the AOD feature will only be accessible on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max variants, and that it will not be available until September.
This new information appears to corroborate that AOD will be available for the iPhone 14 Pro versions, as previously predicted. Apple was supposed to release AOD with the iPhone 13 earlier this year. Other aspects of the impending iOS 16 include new ways to interact with the system, redesigned Apple apps, Messages and Health app updates, and more. Details of the new iPhone 14 have also been leaked!
Meanwhile, according to Gurman (via Phonearena), Apple expects to sell fewer iPhone 14 models than analysts projected. According to Gurman, Apple set a flat production target of 220 million iPhone devices for 2022 due to the fact that the iPhone 14 series will not be a major increase over its predecessor.
Analysts expected the corporation to produce at least 240 million units this year. Another factor could be a supply-chain issue.
Gurman also points out that the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will be incremental upgrades over the existing iPhone 13 models. However, a 120Hz ProMotion display will be included in every iPhone 14 model. The Pro variants, on the other hand, are said to have features such as the much-anticipated 48MP camera and a RAM boost.
