Apple’s innovation will enable iPads to become multitasking powerhouses much more capable of challenging laptops.
- IOS 11 will soon let you run several apps at the same time
- Previously, users could run two apps side by side
- A screenshot of the iOS 11 beta shows four apps running in different windows
New screenshots published from the latest iOS 11 software show four different windows running on the iPad’s screen at once. Previously, Apple’s iPads were limited to running just two apps side by side: one in a primary window and one pulled out next to it. If you wanted to watch a movie, too, you could pop that out.
As this screenshot shows, iPads that run iOS 11 will soon be able to run all sorts of apps. In this picture alone we can see Slack, Safari, a video player and the calendar. The news here is the calendar widget (or presumably any other one) being popped out from the right side of the screen.
At the recent Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple discussed many other features coming to iOS 11 on the iPhone and iPad this fall, including a revamped control center that provides quicker access to media controls, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other shortcuts, as well as much faster app-switching capabilities.
