In December 2015, Jason Njoku of iROKO sealed a deal with Canal+ launch a mobile SVOD service in Francophone Africa.
Now this deal has given birth to iROKO+ which is almost 1,800 hrs of French dubbed Nollywood, Telenovelas and African series. Today iROKO+ goes live across all the francophone countries in Africa. Jason said in his blog that iROKO+ will be free until 1st June 2016 and it will be about educating, evangelising and embracing a new audience for paid video content in Africa.
iROKO+ believes in localisation, hence the app will be fully translated into French (text/audio visual) to truly bring it to life for the FSA market.
Jason sees this launch as a real test of the new iROKO / Canal+O partnership and and a new chapter in iROKO.
In January, Jason’ iROKOtv along with Canal+, Kinnevik AB, raised $19m to scale its operations and expand aggressively across the continent.
