Introducing BuyChat, the “commerce enabled Whatsapp” for Informal Markets In Africa

Olayinka Oluwakuse, the brain behind Balogunmarket.ng, has come up with a new app called BuyChat.

BuyChat is a chat-commerce app that has evolved from Olayinka’s interactions with traders in West Africa’s biggest Market, Balogun Market, Lagos Island.

According to him, “We listened to the traders in the market and pivoted from e-commerce as we have known it into “conversational commerce”. We decided to use the most basic element of digital communication that existed in the market which was Facebook owned “Whatsapp ” to facilitate commerce between the traders and the city residents . Our pivot into “conversational commerce “was validated by Facebook’s F8 early this year showing “messaging as a strong use case for commerce”

Described as the “commerce enabled Whatsapp” for Informal Markets In Africa, BuyChat will scale across African City markets. You will be able to book short stays in hotels, order food from informal restaurants “Buka” in chat, book for flights, pay bills and much more.

Payment and delivery services will be catered for by SimplePay and Delivery.ng.
Private Beta testing starts October 1 while public Beta starts on October 15.
