Interswitch Transnational, a leading pan-African integrated payments company just launched its new SmartMove solution at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2). In a statement by Interswitch, SmartMove has been deployed at the airport as a fully automated multi-storey car park management system that utilises payment cards, the first of its kind in Nigeria. The payment cards will be provided by verve.
A contactless card variant called ‘Verve Breeze’ will work with SmartMove to provide users with quick and easy payment in car parks, on mass transit and on toll roads.
Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, The Group Managing Director of Interswitch Transnational Holdings said that the The launch of SmartMove is an ambitious step for Interswitch into a new high growth sector in Nigeria.
He also said : “As our economy continues to expand we need new solutions to efficiently manage growing numbers of people getting around by car and on public transport. With our technical partner, Skidata, we have developed a transport management solution for a 21st century Nigeria.” The Chief Executive Officer, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the managers of MMA2, Mr. Christophe Penninck also speaking said : “The deployment of SmartMove at the MMA2 car park will provide our customers with a convenient payment solution and allow our car park managers to continuously monitor parking operations to ensure we are providing the very best service that we can.”
Elegbe explained that SmartMove can be deployed to cover mass transit buses, trains, cable cars, tolling systems and both on street and off street parking. “The system has been designed to provide a smooth and seamless travel experience and is the result of collaboration between Interswitch and Skidata, the largest vertically integrated supplier of access for the future technologies, applications and systems,” he said.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) in May named Interswitch Transnational a member of its community of Global Growth Companies (GGC). The company had said its membership of GGC community of WEF is a recognition of its status as a high-growth company and industry leader. It added that the appointment reflects Interswitch’s commitment to driving change through financial technology that improves infrastructure and enables interoperability.
