Interswitch, a prominent player in the African digital payment and commerce sector, has unveiled a crucial partnership with OPay, facilitated by the Interswitch Payment Gateway (IPG). This link-up provides OPay users with a streamlined process to effect direct payments for goods and services on merchants’ sites, drawing from their OPay Wallet funds.
This tactical partnership targets enhancing the experience of digital payments, offering a secure, easy-to-use payment solution. By incorporating OPay into the Interswitch Payment Gateway (IPG), an extra layer of user convenience has been introduced, supplementing the existing gamut of payment alternatives that include Card, Quickteller, Transfer, QR, and USSD.
Muyiwa Asagba, Head of Digital Commerce & Merchant Acquiring (Paymate) at Interswitch, highlighted the importance of this alliance in promoting digital payments’ growth in the country. He expressed his enthusiasm at the potential impact on the payment ecosystem.
On the other side, Ms. Elizabeth, VP of App and Cards, stated that OPay’s commitment to ensuring financial inclusiveness through technology matters, hence the partnership with Interswitch to develop an innovative payment solution. She described the Pay with OPay product as a secure, 2-step process designed to offer a highly convenient payment experience.
Interswitch encourages customers and merchants to take advantage of this innovative feature, with its convenience, security, and flexibility. With OPay recently honored by Interswitch for its exceptional performance among Nigerian FinTech firms, this new partnership cements Interswitch Group’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration within the payment ecosystem and driving reforms that redefine financial transactions.
This reaffirms the Group’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge payment solutions that empower both users and merchants in the ever-evolving digital payment sector.
Meanwhile, Interswitch has been vigorously seeking partnerships to strengthen its African operations over the years.
In June 2023, the company unveiled a collaboration with Equity Bank in Uganda, with the goal of offering customers faster and more affordable access to banking services across over 650 Interswitch-powered ATMs nationwide.
Furthermore, in October 2023, Interswitch publicized its backing for Google Pay in a joint effort that merges Interswitch’s ample merchant network with the user-friendly proficiency of Google Pay’s digital wallet platform.
Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director of Digital Commerce and Merchant Acquiring (Paymate) at Interswitch, asserted that this latest initiative exhibits the fintech’s dedication to bring forth innovations that enhance the digital payment experience.
