The Cameroonian government has restored the internet to the English-speaking regions of the country after a three-month blackout.
The internet was cut in January after a violent protest over marginalisation and imposition of French in schools and courts. The government accused the protesters of using social media to share anti-government messages.
The government after lifting the ban said: “We reserve the right to take measures to stop the internet once again if used as a tool to stoke hatred and division among Cameroonians”.
Anglophone Cameroonians make up about 20% of the country’s 23 million population.
Communications and the economy were badly affected by the shutdown.
