Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram has announced that the video and picture sharing platform will focus on Reels, its TikTok-like feature while strengthening its video and messaging features in 2022. He stated this while discussing Instagram’s priorities for the new year.
The Instagram CEO plans to “rethink what Instagram is” as the new year approaches. The immediate transition of the world to something new is the reason for the reevaluation for the coming year.
“We’re going to have to change with it,” the Instagram executive said. “We’re thinking about who we are, what we value, and what kind of change we want to affect in the world,” the executive added.
Aside from the rethinking, Instagram’s CEO also revealed what the social media platform plans to focus on in the coming year.
Mosseri stated that Instagram is looking to “double down” on its video features by concentrating its efforts on Reels, a recently introduced feature.
Furthermore, the tech executive assured users that the app’s TikTok-like feature is set to grow even more in 2022. Apart from these vague pronouncements, Mosseri did not say anything specific about the future of Reels, which is worth noting.
In addition, Mosseri stated that Instagram will continue to invest in features that give users more control over their accounts. He went on to say that the social media app has started to do so this year with new features like hiding like counts, Hidden Words, and parental controls.
