Have you ever tried reposting on Instagram and found out that you have to download a third-party app to do this? You have to now decide which third-party app to use and if the app will not introduce a bug or if you have to pay for it. If you have used Twitter which has a retweet feature which is so easy to use, why would Meta’s social media platform not have a similar feature?
Well this may soon change as it seems that Instagram is testing a “repost” feature. This was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra when he took a snapshot of Adam Mosseri’s recent video on Twitter talking about “Archive”. By the way, Adam Mosseri is the head of Instagram.
When you watch the Adam’s twitter video, you would catch a new feature on his profile which looks like a repost tab. (see below). You can see that the Repost tab will appear on users’ profiles alongside the posts, reels and tagged photos tabs.
Techcrunch reported that the social media platform confirmed that the Instagram is gearing up to give users the ability to repost other users’ posts.
According to the report, Instagram said “We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed — similar to how you can reshare in Stories — so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work. We plan to test this soon with a small number of people.”
The addition of this repost feature should obviate the need for workarounds when it comes to resharing posts.
We are not sure how long the testing will last or when the feature would be available to the public but let’s hope it is very soon. If and when introduced, I wonder what will happen to the third party app vendors.
