I know about Instagram; I do not have an account because I still do not think it is for me. I am not into taking pictures of every little thing. I rarely use it. But I know there are about 100 million users that would not agree with my thoughts and think that Instagram is the best photo sharing app.
Instagram today announced 100 million people use it every month to share the way they see the world.
For those who do not know about it, Instagram is an online photo-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as media sites including Facebook or Twitter.
Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010. On April 12, 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock.
Facebook HQ has this to say about the milestone:
Today, we’re excited to announce that there are currently 100,000,000 active users on Instagram. You read that number right—one hundred million people use Instagram every month! We want to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for making this community such an incredible place full of creativity, support and openness. Instagram has always been a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family, and you have helped make it so much more. This isn’t just a milestone for us as a company, but one for the entire Instagram community. In honor of this, we want to hear your stories. Share your photos of what Instagram means to you and tag them #InstagramMeansToMe so we can hear your voices. We’ll feature some of our favorite photos right here on our account. From our team to the hundred million people who call Instagram home, we say thank you.
