Instagram Launches New App, Layouts, for Photo Mashups

Earlier today, Instagram unveiled a new app christened Layouts, a standalone app, for photo collages. Layout has 10 different collage layouts depending on the number of photos used and allows users to include as many as nine pictures in one collage.

The resulting photo collage can then be easily shared to Instagram and Facebook. Photo collages are already popular on Instagram using third-party apps such as PicStitch, so Instagram is looking to encourage that. At the present, the app is only available for iOS but Instagram promised in a blog post that an Android version will be out soon.

Instagram also spiced up its own app to make it more attractive than its competitors by including nifty features like a Faces tab that shows only photos in the camera roll that feature people; a Photo Booth which users can tap to start a countdown and capture photos that will instantly show in a layout; and interactive UI.
