Instagram has launched a new feature called Remix on Reels, which is similar to TikTok duets.
Akin to TikTok duets, it lets you create your own reel next to one that already exists. Whether you’re capturing your reaction, responding to friends or bringing your own magic to trends, Remix is another way to collab on Instagram.
Last year, Instagram launched Reels in response to the growing threat of TikTok globally and to take advantage of TikTok’s troubles with Trump in the US
Now it has launched another TikTok-like feature to at least be at par with the competitor.
Remix lets you react to or interact with another person’s video content while creating your own.
How to Remix a reel
To remix a reel,
- tap the three dot menu on a reel,
- select “Remix this Reel” option
- screen splits into the original Reel and your own new one, where you can begin to record side-by-side with the original
- tweak aspects of the recording like volume of the original video or your audio and you can optionally add a voiceover. To use Voiceover, tap the microphone icon. To edit volume controls, tap the slider icon
- publish the video.
Here is a tutorial on how to remix.
Note that the Remix feature will only be available on newly uploaded Reels — so if you want your older Reels to be duetted, you either need to re-upload them or go back to your old Reel and specifically enable Remix.
Rollout of the feature begins today. It is enabled by default for all new reels you publish from a public account.
